Your Credit Score Best friend? Or worst Enemy? Well, it depends…
RATE:

If you pay your debts on time, you build good credit and get a better score. If you have a bad score (or no credit score) you won't be able to buy things you REALLY need later on. (Like a house, after your parents kick you out of the basement.)
How to make credit your BFF
  • - Pay your bills on time
  • - Start building credit early
  • - Keep your credit card balance low
  • - Stash some cash in savings
How to make credit your ENEMY
  • - Buying things you cant afford
  • - Excessively shop for credit
  • - Missing a payment (they will find out)
  • - Opening and closing credit card accounts
  • - Seriously, don't buy things you can't afford
What's Your Credit Score?

You can get your credit scores online one time per year for free. It was an eye opener for me. I had old credit lines from when I bought furniture 90 days same as cash. I closed them and now I have peace of mind knowing those high credit limits aren't out there.

You want to know the secret to a great credit score? It is simple. HAve bills, pay them on time, and do it for a LONG time. Most important is to not be LATE.

you can get a free credit report at annualcreditreport.com (there is a link on the side of this page) with out having to sign-up and then cancel. You have to pay to find out your score, but in my experience I haven't found their scores to be very accurate. The info on the report is though.

I tried to get a free copy of my credit and got charged for it. If you go to experian, they have you sign up to be a member. They charge like $15 dollars a month. You can still get the credit report for free you just have to cancel membership right away.

A good credit score always helps, but in times like these it's the best thing you could have!

there are alot of rumors going around that if you get into credit trouble you should just file for bankruptcy and it is like giving you a clean slate or a new start, but come on guys that's NOT how it works. if you get into trouble talk with a financial counselor and climb your way out of out of control debt

A good credit score can save you some serious cash. Your credit score can make the difference between a 6% rate and an 16% rate for an auto loan. On a 5 yr loan of $5000, that a SAVINGS of OVER $1400!

Credit is so important. When people come in that are in need, but have bad credit, we try to help, but sometimes we cannot help them. Keep your credit in tip-top shape in case the worst happens and you need help with the unexpected.

I have learned that if you get a good handle on credit now, it pays off later :)

Seriously though, don't buy things you can't afford. That's just, well, stupid.
