Go Used
As long as it has 4 wheels and moves, what more do you need, right? You're going to get a good deal if your car isn't expensive.
Research
Everyone hates homework. But when buying a car, it could just save you a lot of money. Look online and compare prices and rates. Bring your homework when you go to a dealership. (It shows you mean business.)
Barter
Just imagine that every dealership is part of a big flea market. Don't be afraid to name your own price and to walk away if they reject it. (They aren't the only booth in the school parking lot.)
Timing is everything
Late summer or early fall is a great time to buy. It's when dealerships are making room for the new models and they are anxious to get cars off the lot.
Do the math.
A lower monthly rate sounds good, but a dragged-out loan means more interest charges. Keep your eye on the total, long-term price as well as monthly payments. Be sure to stay within your budget.
When looking for a car it's always good to check with your insurance before you settle on a car you like too. I've been looking for a newer used car for a couple months and learned that paying for a newer car and insurance was more then I hoped to pay all together. I've decided I'm stickin with old bessy till she dies.

I bought a car. Then I wrecked it. So, I bought another car. Moral of the story? Well, buy a car you like, drive carefully, then make sure you have insurance. I am glad that I shopped around and made sure that I only paid what the car was worth, otherwise I would have been stuck with a loan and no car.

My advise is if you have a good car that still works and runs great, then don't go out and buy a new one just because its in style or you just want to. Why go into debt for fashion or for fun. Wait until you really really need. You'll save so much money in the long run.
Really do your homework when you buy a car. Something that I did when I bought my car was look at the consumer reports. I looked at the cars I could afford and then started looking more closely at the cars I liked and had an excellent report. Then at the dealership I wasn't jerked around because I knew about how much the car was worth. Another good idea before buying a car is taking the car you are serious about to your mechanic to see what he thinks of the deal.

Take your time looking at cars. Dont buy the first one you test drive. I bought the second car I test drove. I really like my car but wish I would have looked around more before I made my decision.

Good advice: go used. It will be a lot less inexpensive for you and since its used you wont have to worry about every little thing that may or may not happen to your car. My brother just bought a car and wishes he would've gotten an older used car because he worries about every little thing...which is usually nothing or just normal wear on the car. So if it helps you sleep better at night, buy it used!
one good thing to think about when buying a car is to think where will I be with this car in five years. you want to purchase a car that will be a smart investment, not one that looks good at the time but in six months you regret your descission.
