Home is where you hang your hat...and where your bills get sent.

Your home is your castle only without servants and a moat. Finding and buying the right home is one of the most important decisions youll ever make. There is a lot to it, here are some of the basics.
  • Rent or Buy
The American dream says you should buy a house, you can pass it on to kids, or flip it for a profit. On the other hand, renting can be cheaper and the repair costs could be really low.
  • There's no rush
Take your time. Don't fall in love with the first house that has granite countertops. Research different neighborhoods and look at lots of different homes.
  • Budget
Figure out how much house you can comfortably buy, then go and see what's out there. Remember to include utilities and possible repair costs when figuring out your budget. You don't want to end up house poor.
  • You don't need a big down payment.
But you will need one. Start saving now.
  • Pre-qualify.
Visit AFCU to see how much money you qualify for. It can help take some of the guesswork out of finding a house.
  • Negotiate
Don't be afraid to name your own price. (Practice your haggling skills by playing Monopoly.)

I will be signing to get a house for the first time. Rent is great if you dont have to much saved up and dont plan on being where you are at for to long but if you stay there longer than a year. You have nothing to show for the money you have paid towards rent. Rent is good for short term but long term buying a house will always be better. Here is a great website to use that is free to check out what they have listed for sale in Utah. It even gives the name and phone number of the selling a

Me and my fiance are building our first house and even though it has been a very stressful process I am glad that we are putting our money towards something that is ours and we can eventually get our money back if we decide to move. I feel that with renting you are basically throwing your money away because you will never see a return from your investment.

I totally agree that buying is a good thing however it isn't right for everyone. You need to be sure that you aren't being talked into anything, but that you are making your own decision.

The biggest advice that I can give is that when you decide it is the right time to buy a house (and this time is different for everyone) don't even consider looking at houses that are out of your price range. You will end up falling in love with them and than when you look at houses that are in your price range you will only be able to see what it doesn't have that the other house does have. Set your sights on houses in your price range and you will be so much happier with it.

My wife and I have been debating on wether to buy a house or keep renting. There are some nice incentives out there to get you to buy. I would suggest that you dont rush it. Make sure that you will be able to afford a hosue payment and all the other little things that come with buying a house.

having a house with a white picket fence is the american dream. make sure you do everything before hand to prepare to make that dream come true. go talk to a mortgage loan officer now and they will tell you how to start preparing yourself.

Buying a home is a SOOO much better than renting and now is an awesome time to buy, but be smart. SAVE! You have a better chance getting the lending you need and the house you want if you have a down payment.

It took our family a while to decide to buy a home. I'm really glad we did. It's amazing how fast you can build equity with the right upgrades to your home.
